Ayurveda Therapies

Panchakarma: (detoxification) Panchakarma is an age old Ayurvedic method for detoxification and rejuvenation. Ideally each individual should do Panchakarma at least once every year to maintain optimum health. Panchakarma is a unique, natural, holistic, health-giving series of therapeutic treatments that cleanse the body's deep tissues of toxins, open the subtle channels, bring life-enhancing energy, thereby increasing vitality, inner peace, confidence and well being. Abhyanga: (herbalized oil massage), this is a warm oil massage with custom prepared herbal oils. The massage, while soothing and relaxing to the nervous system, also acts to mobilize accumulated toxins in the skin and allow for their elimination. Other benefits include stress reduction of stress or fatigue, stimulation of antibody production, thereby strengthening the immune system.


Swedana: (herbalized steam bath), this liquefies and loosens ama (sticky, toxic substances resulting from improper digestion of food, environmental pollution and other harmful sources) so that they can be easily eliminated from the body. Thus it mobilizes the toxins. It is used for obesity, joint diseases and other respiratory disorders.


Shirodhara: (continuous stream of herbalized oil, milk or buttermilk on the forehead at the point in between the eyebrows in a steady stream): 'Shiro' is head and 'dhara' means stream, a very calming, relaxing treatment for the nervous system, insomnia, stress, psychosomatic mental disorders and vata and skin disorders. The constant stream of liquid creates a vibration, which transmutes the energy to a subtle state, and by slowing the breath, induces a state of deep meditative relaxation.


Shiroabhyanga: (head massage with oil), massage to the head with therapeutic oils provides nourishment to all the sense organs and the brain and promotes their normal natural functions. It is beneficial for chronic conditions affecting the head and mind such as insomnia, hair loss, headaches, etc.


Nasya: (nasal administration of herbalized oils or herbs), helps to balance prana and promote mental clarity. It is used for sinus congestion, migraines, and respiratory allergies. Daily nasal lubrication helps to release tension in the head and relieve accumulated stress. Nasya is also traditionally said to improve quality of voice, strengthen vision and promote mental clarity.


Padabhyanga: (foot oil massage) a very relaxing massage in which the important marma points on the foot are gently massaged with warm oil. It calms the whole being and also brings a gleam and luster to the eyes. Feet are very important part in our body, as many nerves from many organs terminate in the feet. So massage helps to strengthen these nerves and restores health to many parts of the body. The marma (vital) points are massaged which gives balance to your dosha and is very helpful for people with insomnia, fatigue and cramps.


Hridayabasti: A local basti (collection of herbal oil and massage) over the chest area. Is useful in heart disease, chest aches and pains, and for Vata and Pitta imbalance in the chest area. It is also helpful in releasing deep seated emotions on a subtle level.


Katibasti: A local basti (collection of herbal oil and massage) over the lower back. It is helpful in backache, spinal problems, disc problems and Vata imbalance in the back area. It increases circulation in the region and nourishes and strengthens muscles and nerves.


Udvartana: (dry powder massage) A dry massage which uses herbal powders according to your constitution. This massage is helpful for weight reduction and to exfoliate skin cells, helps curb obesity, improves mobility in the joints, strengthens muscles and reduces cholesterol.


Netrabasti: (collection of herbal oil) this nourishing eye treatment helps to improve clarity and vision, and enhances the natural luster of the eyes. This relaxing eye bath treatment, nourishes the deep connective tissue of the eyes, is beneficial for eye strain, dark circles under the eyes, dry and itchy eyes, sty, optic neuritis, early cataract, macular degeneration, and Bell's palsy.


Udarabasti: A local basti (collection of herbal oil and massage) over the navel. The navel is a vital center where seventy two thousand subtle energy pathways converge. Warm oil on the umbilicus acts on the solar plexus and balances the digestive fire. It is beneficial for indigestion, gas, and constipation. Emotionally, it facilitates the release of deeply seated emotions.


Janu basti: A local basti (collection of herbal oil and massage) over the knee joint. It promotes the strength of the knee by improving circulation. Use it for knee arthritis or general knee pain.


Greeva basti: A local basti (collection of herbal oil and massage) over the back of the neck. It is very useful for chronic pain in the neck region, arthritis and also frozen shoulder.


Karna Poorana: The ears are filled with herbalized oils which creates a feeling of deep restfulness. This is a wonderful therapy for vata balancing, and may be useful for insomnia. It is beneficial for earaches, deafness, ringing in the ears, and also tooth and gum disorders. It sharpens hearing.


Pinda Sweda: Small sacks of herbal paste are used to massage the body after a light application of herbal oil. This therapy helps release toxins, makes the body supple, strengthens the muscles, decreases stiffness in the joints, and is effective in healing neuromuscular disorders by awakening cellular memory. It restores appetite and sleep patterns and also relieves stress.


Pizhichil: This is a synchronized massage with a constant flow of warm herbal oil. It is useful for nervous weakness, vata disorders, loss of muscle mass and for optimum relaxation.
